HDPE water traps are crucial components in building drainage systems, preventing harmful gases and pests. Maintaining their proper function requires scientific and reasonable daily maintenance. Although high-density polyethylene (HDPE) material possesses excellent corrosion resistance and anti-aging properties, its effectiveness can still be affected by factors such as dirt accumulation and water seal evaporation during long-term use. Therefore, a standardized maintenance mechanism must be established to ensure stable system operation.
The primary task of daily maintenance is to regularly check the water seal status. Water traps rely on a certain height of still water to form a sealing barrier. If the water level falls below the specified limit due to evaporation or leakage, the odor-proof function will fail. It is recommended to visually check the water level in the visible trap at least once a month. If the water level is insufficient, add fresh water promptly, especially in areas that are unoccupied for extended periods or seasonally out of use.
Secondly, attention should be paid to internal unobstructed flow. Although the inner wall of an HDPE water trap is smooth, grease, hair, and solid debris can gradually accumulate in the bends, causing blockages and weakening the water seal effect. In conjunction with periodic cleaning operations of building drainage pipes, appropriate pressure flushing or specialized cleaning tools can be used to clean the water traps, avoiding direct contact with strong acids and alkalis to prevent material damage.
Regarding environmental maintenance, external mechanical impacts and heavy pressure should be avoided to prevent deformation or damage to the water traps. For outdoor or semi-outdoor installations in areas prone to freezing, antifreeze measures should be implemented during cold seasons to prevent water freezing and subsequent pipe cracking and water seal loss. Simultaneously, attention should be paid to abnormal odors or backflow in the drainage system, as these may indicate sealing failure in the water traps or their connections, requiring timely inspection and replacement.
During maintenance, records should be kept and tracked, including inspection time, water level, cleaning details, and any abnormalities found, to analyze trends and implement preventative maintenance. Through systematic and periodic daily maintenance, the service life of HDPE water traps can be maximized, ensuring their continued crucial role in blocking harmful gases and protecting indoor hygiene.
